Andrea: Cat behaviour trainer

I am passionate about improving the life of the cats and their owners:

I use methods which are designed to help cats and their owners have a happy and healthy relationship.

I´m a cat behaviourist (Feline Behaviour and Psychology Diploma passed with Distinction)

I have more than 6 years of experience in caring for special needs cats.

I help them in their own house, because cats are a territorial species, and so being taken out of their territory and placed into an unfamiliar environment is a great source of stress to them.

My goal when helping cats with situations like aggression, inappropriate soiling or any other behaviour issues is to reduce this stress as much as possible, and not to escalate it, in order to improve cat welfare but also to their owners.

Common issues:

  • Inappropriate Soiling:
The cat goes to the toilet in the middle of the living room, or the bed. Or maybe even right next to the litter tray. Is the most common behaviour issue.

  • Scratching the furniture:
Cats scratch surfaces and it's a common behaviour but this does not mean we can let our furniture be scratched.

  • Aggression:
Cats that unexpectedly "attack" their owners when petting them, or just suddenly.

  • Overgrooming:
There are patches of broken or sparse hair, complete hair loss in areas and occasionally damage to the underlying skin.

  • Inactivity and Obesity:
They go together and are very common in indoor cats.

  • Getting on counters:
Cats are natural climbers, but our furniture should not suffer.

These are the most common reasons why adult cats are relinquished to shelters, and because they are not as cute as kittens they are much less likely to find new homes.

House soiling, aggression and scratching are the most common cat behavioural problems. Most cat behaviour problems are normal behaviour — for a cat.

With a little help, we can make a happy environment for the cat and their owners.

I AM AGAINST PUNISHMENTS, SCRUFFING AND OTHER FORMS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL OR PHYSICAL ABUSE WHEN TRAINING A CAT

Litter box issues, scratching, aggression, too much nighttime activity, play-induced biting and scratching. And many more common cat issues can be solved in less than a month and with simple, sensible solutions, that will not stress the cat or the owner.

My (not so) naughty cats:

TOBI WAS SCRATCHING THE BED. WITH A LITTLE HELP SHE DECIDED HER SCRATCHING POST WAS A BETTER OPTION.

Andrea was brilliant and went above and beyond our expectations every day and is incredibly knowledgeable about cat behaviour - she solved a long running issue with the cat scratching our bedpost! We would happily hire Andrea again the next time, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to other cat owners. Thank you Andrea :)

TANGO WAS HAVING AGGRESSION ISSUES. HE LEARNED TO TRUST HIS OWNERS AND HIS TODDLER BROTHER AGAIN!

Andrea helped us understand our cat's feelings and fears. Created a setting in the house that would allow Tango get a hiding spot away from the baby when he needs it.
He is more relaxed and happy and he enjoys our company and play time, and of course, no more scratching or hissing.  We are very happy with the changes!

MINNIE AND LOKI WERE HAVING ISSUES LIVING TOGETHER IN THE SAME HOUSE. THEY WOULD FIGHT AND NOT GET ALONG.

Both Minnie and Loki were rescue cats and couldn't get along. A consultation  with Andrea helped to vastly improve the situation. She has an instinctive and a well researched knowledge of cat behaviour. We are all very grateful.
